Why add job codes?
Both the business and personal editions of Budgets Get Real have the facility to add job codes after the categorisation.
Adding a job code is a means of sorting or searching particular types of transactions, which may be of use to you. The uses are most extensive in business situations, but by no means limited to them.
How to set up and add job codes.
- Go to the Set and Maintain header in the main program menu
- Click on Jobs and the Current job codes screen opens.

- Click on Create New to add a Job Code.
- Job codes are added to transactions on the Transaction Register Screen.
Personal Uses of Job Codes.
One of the most common uses would be to identify transactions needed for tax return purposes. If you have joint accounts or accounts for both yourself and your partner in your database, you can separate transactions relating to different parties as illustrated in the example above.
By Clicking on Transactions on the Main Program menu you can select the Search facility.
If you wanted to identify all transactions for a given job code, for a given financial year, you would search as illustrated.

Business Uses of Job Codes.
Using BizPack, you can do more complicated searches including Profit and Loss and Budgets vs Actuals for each different Job code, which is not available with the Personal version. You can also produce Balance Sheet reports for the business overall.
You can also use the job code to filter, for different entities for BAS Returns. The uses can be as varied as you require.
1. If you are a property investor, you can apply a different Job code to each different property that you own, to be able to dissect your figures. The transactions for these properties can be in the same bank account.
The BIZPack allows you to calculate separate Profit and Loss and Budgets vs Actuals for each property, and thus help you make decisions.
If you have residential property (no GST) and some commercial property (with GST), it is still easy to dissect the transactions, and separate those needed for a BAS return.
2. As a Business Owner you can use Job Codes to identify different “Jobs” or different clients, products or sections for your business. Using the BIZPack, you can also search by multiple codes at the one time. For example, you could search for the income and profitability of work from a group of clients, each with their own Job code.
3. If you are employing staff, you could similarly assign different codes to identify transactions relating to different employees. (This is often not a good use of Job codes, since you can extensively search by name.) If you do use Jobs with employees, these are best used in tracking their time against projects.
4. If you are an investor, you can use separate codes for different sources of income such as rent, dividends, capital gains, distributions or profits and losses from trading shares.
